Autumn is upon us. And although it can be a beautiful time of the year, our hair may not be on the same page. Hopefully over summer, you managed to spend some time in the sun. But heat, wind, seawater can take a high toll on your hair. Don’t panic, we’ve got you covered. All you will need is one natural, eco-friendly product – our good old friend Shea butter. With its incredible hydrating power and other wonderful properties, Shea to the rescue of devitalised, stressed locks!
Moisturizes all hair types
Whether curly, wavy, frizzy or straight, Shea butter can help keep moisture and softness in your hair. Though often found in conditioners, Shea can be used on its own to hydrate hair due to its semi-solid consistency. These properties make Shea ideally suited to dry hair, and in particular curly & wavy locks as these are more prone to breakage than straight hair. Also, curls make it more difficult for sebum (the hair’s natural moisturizer) to flow down the hair shaft, and it is therefore crucial to moisturize well from root to end. Depending on your hair type, you can either apply Shea to the entire hair or just to the roots. Generally, people with straight hair should apply Shea just to the ends, but you might find that you’re an exception to this rule.
Nourishes, repairs and protects your hair
If you’re someone who uses hair dryers and straighteners daily or frequently, Shea could help reduce damage to your hair. Change of season, cold, heat, seawater and sun also damage hair fibre. Since it is full of vitamins A, D, E and F, Shea nourishes and repairs devitalised hair, helping to prevent those dreaded split ends. Shea is a champion at preventing damage by acting as a protective film. The result is beautiful, healthy hair throughout the entire year.
Softens and soothes the scalp
Shea butter is well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties*. You can get rid of an itchy scalp with Shea thanks to its soothing action, and it also helps reduce dandruff. Using it as an overnight hair mask allows it to permeate the scalp without leaving a greasy residue – as long as you wash your hair properly in the morning. No need to use much, a little goes a long way!
ELEPHAS Team tip: As natural replacement for eyebrow gel, you can use a small dab to style your eyebrows. This also promotes healthy hair growth.
